Whimsy April Release - Old Fart

Hello!

Goodness how fast this year is going, I can't believe that it's already April solidly into Spring, (although with all the cold and snow we've had recently that's really hard to fathom!).

Anyway, since it's April, we have, of course, a new product release at Whimsy Stamps. There really are so many fabulous new goodies, but for my card today I've been playing with the 'Old Fart' clear stamp set.

This is a fun little set with a fun image and lots of hilarious sentiments to go with. Great for those in your life of a more 'seasoned' age.....provided they have a solid sense of humour of course.

I kept things simple, stamping in black ink and colouring fairly basically with a mix of distress ink and Zig markers. I added some patterned paper along with some die cuts and a sentiment from the same paper pack that went well with the image and stamped sentiment from the set that I used on the card.

I finished with a few of Whimsy's glittery enamel dots.

Whimsy Stamps DT - Fairy and Puppy

Hello!

I have a simple layered card to share with you today using the cute and pretty Fairy and Puppy from Whimsy Stamps.

I coloured this one all in Distress Ink markers as a bit of a change from Zigs and used some layers of patterned papers from my stash to match the colours to. 

This aren't at all my 'usual' colour choices but I love them and I actually think they suit the stamp very well.

The sentiment is from the the clear stamp set Polka Dot Fun which has a great selection of simple sentiments that don't take up heaps of room and are great on little 'badges'.

Whimsy Stamps August Release - Sweet Lil' Chef

I have another card made with a stamp from the new August release from Whimsy Stamps.

This time I'm showcasing the stamp Sweet Lil' Chef 

I coloured her with distress ink markers using Vintage Photo, Worn Lipstick, Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy and Pumice Stone.

For the background I used a whole bunch of sentiments from the Simple Sentiments set, stamping them with versamark ink and then heat embossing with white embossing powder. I then blended Cracked Pistachio, Twisted Citron and Peacock feathers distress inks over the top.

I used some patterned paper behind and finished with a selection of green and aqua hued sequins.

Make a Wish - My Favorite Things - Fairy Happy

I did mean to blog this yesterday and thought I had but obviously did not hit that publish button!

Anyhooo......I get to share it with you today instead. As you can see I made another card with the Fairy Happy stamp set from MFT Stamps.

I stamped out my little fairy and coloured her in Distress Inks this time. I used Vintage Photo, Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber. I cut her out with the coordinating dienamic and then started work on my background.

I used some Tim Holtz watercolour paper and blended some inks using the Radiating Rays stencil and a blending tool and then went over each area of colour with a bit more ink using a Clarity Stencil brush for a softer, lighter effect. I cut this out with the smaller rounded rectangle die from 

Blueprints 31.

I cut out some patterned paper from the Graphic Grid paper pack, with the scalloped edge die from Blueprints 20 and stuck this to an A2 card base made from Razzle Berry cardstock.

I stuck my background piece to my card base using some craft foam in between for dimension and stamped the Make a Wish sentiment onto a scrap of Razzle Berry cardstock and cut that out with a banner die from Blueprints 20. I glued that to my background panel.

Finally I added my fairy with some foam tape to make her pop and finished with a few sparlking clear sequins.

Fairy Happy Coral

It's the weekend and I'm busy creating, but I thought I would drop in to share this little sweetie with you.

I went all summer pastel on this one, using my Distress Markers to colour in one of the faeries from the Fairy Happy stamp set and some MFT Premium Dye Inks to create the blended background.

I stamped the sentiment from the same set, in Versafine underneath my blending and some flight paths for my insects and then  cut out my coloured images with the matching die-namics, and popped them up with a little foam tape.

I made a top folding vertical A2 size card base from some Coral Crush Cardstock, and then cut a piece of Plaid Patterns paper pack with a rectangle die from Blueprints 20, and adhered that at an angle to my card base. Than I adhered my blended panel to that at an angle.

I finished off with a few sequins in matching colours.

Tilly Dancing

Today I'm sharing a card made for Whimsy Stamps with the sweet little Tilly Dancing.

I coloured her with my Distress Ink markers:

Vintage Photo,  Antique Linen, Wlanut Stain, Victorian Velvet, Brushed Corduroy

I fussy cut Tilly once I'd coloured her up and because that meant I lost the sparkles from her wand, I sort of added them back in with some bling.

I kept the colours subtle and delicate to suit the image. 

I also used the Hand Stitched Nested Rectangle dies on my card.

A bit of cheesecloth between the layers helps add a softness to the card.

Whimsy May Release Day 1

Waving Hello

Hello!

I'm dropping by with a sweet and simple card I made using the Lawn Fawn Stamp Set Mermaid for You

I coloured 2 of the mermaids very simply with my Distress Ink markers, adding a little detail to their tails with the pen nib. I cut them out with the matching dies and set aside.

I took a piece of watercolour paper and a couple of different colours of distress ink and did a background with the smooshing technique, picking up the diluted ink on a piece of acetate and smooshing it onto the watercolour card to make an unstructured and random pattern.

After I had the desired effect, I added a few drops of water and blotted off the excess, and then splattered on some drops of white acrylic paint.

Once fully dry I cut it down with a large rectangle die from Blueprints 20 and then cut a piece of turquoise lustre card 1/8th of an inch bigger all round to mat it.

I made a US A2 top folding card base and adhered my mats to the card, centreing them.

I arranged my mermaids to decide where I wanted them, and stamped a sentiment from the set in black onyx Versafine ink, then adhered the mermaids in place, popping them up with some foam tape.

Finally for a finishing touch I added a few sequins.

Rose Scent Tilda for The Ribbon Girl

I'm here with a DT post for The Ribbon Girl.

It's been rather a long time since I coloured up a Tilda, I've almost forgotten how lol, 

so I thought I'd have a play with Rose Scent Tilda.

I don't find red the easiest to colour with distress inks, if you aren't careful it looks pink and if you try and build too much depth it can bleed very easily as it's highly pigmented, but it didn't turn out bad today.

The papers are old ones from the Siri's Kitchen collection and I thought this kitchen tile design could easily give the impression of bathroom tiles which then tied in with my image.

I used lots of yummy embellishments from The Ribbon Girl and I've listed them below with links to take you directly to them in the shop.

Lawn Fawn Fairy Friends

A quick one from me as promised. 

I received a lovely parcel of MFT goodies today in the post, mostly from the new release that I fell in love with and I've already coloured a bunch of them up ready to make into cards, but in the meantime, here's a couple of simple but sweet cards using Lawn Fawn's Fairy Friends.

I have to admit that I've had these in my stash for quite a while but hadn't gotten around to using them. 

So to make it up to these sweet little fairies I used them for 2 cards.

The first card I decided to to some bold ink blending to create a rainbow and some grassy hills. I cut my own stencils for these using a circle die and an oval scalloped die.

I gave the scene a nice little frame and finished with a few sequins, fairies need sparkle right?

For my second card I went much more subtle with pastel colours and soft ink blending. After blending Spun Sugar, Shaded Lilac and Tumbled Glass onto my watercolour paper I added a few spots of water and blotted with a paper towel and then when fully dray I added a few splatters of white acrylic paint.

 I stamped a few of the little 'sparkles' on my base and and added a few clear gems.

The first set of faires is coloured with my Zig Markers and the 2nd set is coloured with Distress Ink Markers. I gave the first set hair to match their outfit and all the fairies have wink of stella on their wings for sparkle which of course refused to show up on camera lol. The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

I used the following stamps and dies on my cards.

Whimsy Stamps - Bunny Balloon

Hello!

No spotlight Saturday from me this week as I'm trying to catch up with other posts and clear some of the projects in my draft folder also. So today I'm sharing a sweet little shaker card using the new Bunny Balloon stamp from Whimsy's Kirsten Winkelbauer collection.

I paired this with the Big Balloon Celebrations die set to add a fun shaker element and the balloon string and Celebrate sentiment are from the Big Balloon Celebrations clear stamp set.

The white rectangle is cut with one of the Hand Stitched Nested Rectangles dies.

I've coloured her with my distress ink markers using Vintage Photo, Worn Lipstick, Antique Linen, Walnut Stain, Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord and Mustard Seed.

The background paper is Maja Design,Vintage Spring Basics.

Sequins are a mix of Viola from Little Things by Lucy and Sunshine Mix from Simon Says Stamp.

Technique Tuesday - Embossing and DI colouring on Kraft.

The other night as I was walking home from the bus stop on what had turned into a nice sunny evening, I had to smile when I saw 2 community police officers on bicycles.

It was lovely to see them and they were pleasant and smiling, but as I passed them I did have to give pause to think......."I wonder if they know they're breaking the law by cycling on the pavement?".

Somewhat ironic.

But nothing to do with today's post, just the kind of random stuff that rattles around in my brain......let's get on with today's post.

Today's technique had me embossing and then colouring with distress inks on Kraft cardstock, something I admit I'd never attempted before. Because I didn't have anything fancy like buff coloured watercolour paper, or Neenah Desert Storm, I had to resort to plain old Bazill Kraft cardstock, which is quite delicate and very easily marked, so in an effort to make things a little easier on myself, I chose to do it in just one colour - Frayed Burlap.

It wasn't too bad actually, although I did err on the side of not adding too much and blending with an almost dry brush. I probably could have gone even darker letting it dry in between, but I really liked the look of it and I didn't want to spoil my hard work lol.

I used MFT's Funky Flower stamp set and matching Die-namics. I stamped quite a few of just the one type of flower plus leaves, and in the end I had enough for 2 cards.

For this 2nd card I switched thinks around and reversed the kraft and white cardstock on the base and frame, cutting a smaller layer of the white.

In the end this was quite a simple technique but I feel it looks really effective.

Whimsy Stamps - Wee Stamps - Freesia

Now I have some free time and the internet seems to be behaving a little better, I'm catching up on some makes from the last few weeks.

This post also serves as a reminder for The Ribbon Girl  April Use Any Image Challenge.

My card today uses Freesia, from the Whimsy Stamps, Wee Stamps collection.

This cute little bunny was released in March and although it was perfect for Easter makes, I think it works just as well for birthdays and other occasions. So a birthday card is what I made using a sentiment from the newly released Vintage Birthday Frames Sentiment collection from Whimsy Stamps.

Whimsy April Release Day 1

Hello!

It's that time again, time again, Whimsy's new release is here and what a fab release it is. We have some great products to share with you and I'm kicking off the fun with one of my favourite artists to colour, Sylvia Zet. Sylvia is the artist behind Whimsy Stamps Wee Collection and there is not a single one of these stamps that I do not like. Today's stamp is no exception, it's called Loli and Shellie, Shellie being the little snail. You can catch the new stamps here.

I wanted to keep this clean and bright looking, so I chose some pretty Lemoncraft Forget me Not papers and coloured my image with my distress ink markers to match. I decided that I don't colour redheads nearly enough, so I gave her a lovely head of titan hair.

Floral Waves

Hello!

Well I'm finally here with you again. Combine a busy work schedule with coming down poorly and then my PC refusing to aknowledge my IP address and find the internet.....it's been a bit of a stressful week lol.

Because I wasn't able to access the internet yesterday until late, I missed my Spotlight Saturday, so that will have to wait until next week.

In the meantime I'm sharing with you a card that I almost lost....yes that's right, I thought I'd lost this.

After colouring her up and sharing a WIP on Instagram I tidied away while making the transition to my new craft room/guest room and then I could not find it anywhere.

But yesterday when I couldn't get on the net, I was organising stuff and voila! there was the card I'd started making. So I finished her off quickly so I could share her with you today.

Friendship Ties - Whimsy Stamps March Release Day 3

Hello!

Arrggghhh! You know when you have everything all planned out like clockwork and you think you can relax and take a moment off and then it all goes horrible wrong? I had a day like that yesterday, I knew I had a very busy day, so I planned ahead but on the day everything fell to pieces, this should have gone live yesterday, but for reasons I won't go into and just want to draw a veil over it didn't.

Anyhooooo....I'm back today with some more yumminess from the March release at Whimsy Stamps.

Today I'm showcasing one of the new Wee Stamps Collection, this is called Friendship Ties and like all of Sylvia Zet's wonderful drawings it is super sweet.

I coloured her up with my distress ink markers to match some pretty papers from the Maja Design Vintage Spring Basics collection, love me some lilacs and the pale green just keeps it all fresh.

I had a bit of a change from my recent CAS fest and went shabby chic with this one, I think it suits her well.
