Happy Tuesday!
It's time for a new theme over at Deep Ocean Challenge Blog, and this time it's
Halloween.
Now I have to admit that while I love Halloween, I really dread this theme coming up.
We don't send cards for Halloween in the UK and it's really much more for the smaller children here, so since my children are all grown up but don't as yet have children of their own, anything I make is rather wasted.
But then I saw this gorgeous digi from Digistamp Atelier, she called
and I thought she was perfect to fit the Halloween theme without being tied specifically to Halloween.
I kept things fairly simple, in fact it's bordering on CAS but the flowers push it over lol.
I used black and purple with a little silver miri card for a nice sorcerous feel. I added the bling and little die cut stars above the wand so that it looks like she's casting a spell.
I have to say that I found this stamp quite difficult to colour in my distress inks as a lot of the shadding is sketched in, and since the inks are translucent, you can see the grey through the colour. So I thought I would colour her with Hickory Smoke and Black Soot with just a touch of Shaded Lilac and Dusty Concord for her eyes, the flowers and ribbon in her hair and the ends of her braids. I also used it for the 'glow' around her.
To add to the magical effect I outlined her with my Sakura Clear Star pen, to give her some silvery shimmer and sparkle, when you turn the card to the light. Doesn't that sentiment seem made for this stamp?
I do hope you like my twist on the Halloween theme, why not come join in the fun?! :) xx
I'm speechless... Such a wonderful image and you coloured it in a stunning way!! Really a great work!
ReplyDeleteI love your take on the Halloween theme Linda, she is such a beautiful image and your Sakura glitter pen treatment does just the trick with the magical feel.

I hear you. I'm also dreading of the Halloween theme. Halloween isn't really big here. Well, it's getting more and more popular and there might be some Halloween parties, and some people might carve a pumpkin, but that's pretty much it. We don't do trick-or-treating or anything like that. We have our own carnival (Mardi Gras) for that.
ReplyDeleteRegardless that you were "afraid" of this challenge theme, your creation turned out really beautifully. And I agree with you - it can be used for other occassions too, not just for Halloween (although it fits this theme perfectly too). I love the image you used and those tiny stars really give the feeling that the girl is casting a spell. And what a great idea to use your Sakura pen to outline the image. Fabulous! It really looks magical!
Hugs! xx
This drew me in right away with the colours. Love the sepia tone look and that shimmery sparkle is indeed gorgeous. I love everything about this, even the fact you managed to come up with an image that would work for you.
ReplyDeleteWOW, you have done an amazing job of this! Your colouring is beautiful and I love the addition of the Sakura pen, I am also in love with the image. I am with you when it comes to Halloween, I am so lucky that none of my challenges have been Halloween themed. I own one stamp that could be used for it which is really quite old now.
