Casey at Dies to Die for

Before I start my post for today, it's my Mum's birthday today, so a big Happy Birthday to my Mum! (I'll be posting the card I've made her tomorrow, once she's had a chance to see it and have it to herself).
Happy Friday everyone. Well I don't know about happy for me, just glad that this week has come to an end I think.  The week started poorly,  I had some disappointing news on Monday missing out on the Saturated Canary DT spots (I know, I know, it really shouldn't matter and it's one reason I hardly ever go in for DT calls and just wait to be invited, as it's a real slap to your ego when you don't get it).

To be fair I get asked more than my fair share and I only take on a fraction of those that do ask me, usually just guesting, as full time work means I can only take on so much, but this one, it was a real dream of mine. Also work has just  really been awful this week, I've been in early all week with so much loaded on me, I've been really stressed out which isn't like me, I've hurt my back/shoulder/neck, so even crafting, which I normally do to de-stress is painful.

Also I'm not enjoying the weather recently, it's been cold wet and miserable, just adding to my mood, so I thought...enough with the moaning,.....  I'd cheer myself up with a make in Spring like colours.

For today's make I chose to ink up Casey, from LDRS and my was she fun to colour......and so quick! Since she's just a 'floating' top half, I thought I'd 'frame' her with this Memory Box die. I did a little 'out of the box' fussy cutting, so the end of her braid hung over the frame. Links to products are at the end of my post.

I've coloured Casey in Distress Ink Markers, colours used are:

Skin: Tattered Rose, Tea Dye, Fired Brick, Victorian Velvet
Hair: Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs
Clothing: Dusty Concord

I added some lovely yellow and lilac trims, some cheesecloth,  and finished off with some beautiful beaded berries and flowers from  Wild Orchid Crafts and The Ribbon Girl.

The beautiful butterfly is from Karla's Kreative Korner.

The inside is decorated simply to complement the front with plenty of space for your own message.

I used the following products:

Well that's all from me today, I'm off to friends for dinner and drinks tonight, so hopefully that will cheer me up a bit!

I'll see you again tomorrow with more inspiration *hugs* :) xx

  1. Don't be too hard on yourself, Linda! Sometimes it can be that your style is too similar to someone else on the design team, that means you don't get in - I'm pretty sure it has no reflection on your work as it is always stunning!
I love the pretty Spring colour tones on your fab shaped card - the lilac and lemon really work together well and your attention to detail is your usual high standard! Can I ask what type of thread you use for your stitching? Hugs, Lisa x

  3. Thanks for your lovely comment Lisa. The thread i use is Guttermans Top Stich thread. It's nice and thick so it shows up well, I find that thinner threads can sometimes appear a bit lost, especially in photographs. You cant get as many colours as in normal threads, but there's still a good choice if you shop around. Of course not everyone uses coloured thread on their cards like I do, most people just use white :) xx

  5. Hopefully your weekend will get off to a great and uplifting start and the events of the past week can be forgotten. I can understand how disappointing it was to miss the DT place at Saturated Canary especially as you had set your heart on it for some time but as Lisa said above, it is by no means a reflection on your work at all because it's stunning. Who knows what the future will bring?
Todays card is also stunning with it's cheerful colour scheme and beautiful image. Details and embellishments are, as always, themed beautifully to match.
Hope your day goes well and enjoy the weekend.

  6. I'm sorry to hear your week hasn't been the best. :( I was really surprised to see you didn't make it to the SC DT, because I thought your card was beyond amazing. But don't be sad because you didn't get in. Who knows, you might get an invitation from Krista to join her team one day. *fingers crossed*
Your card is very beautiful. I like lilac and yellow colour combination and I think you framed the image beautifully. It looks fantastic!
    Hugs! xx

  8. I can totally relate to your feelings, Linda. Encouraged by friends to apply to a DT,I finally did a few weeks ago and was recently rejected. I know my work is not that good, but your work is perfection. I don't know what Saturated Canary was thinking! It was an extremely stressful week at work for me and the weather here isn't that great now. I think this card and all your cards are gorgeous. They would be a treasure to own! Happy Birthday to your Mom!

  9. Stopping by to say how much I enjoy looking at all your wonderful creations. I truly admire your work. You combine elements & colors flawlessly!

Don't worry about Saturated Canary--I believe many of us crafters have had the same experience as you. I know I have. I gave up trying out for DT's years ago--basically for the same reason you described. Now I design for myself/family & for the sheer love of it. Hope you spend a wonderful day with your mom on her birthday tomorrow.

    Take care...xoxo Kay

  10. This is beautiful!!! I know it sucks when you don't get what you were hoping for - but your work is truly beautiful. I think it's fair to say that's one of the hardest DT teams to get on, and it's not that you weren't good enough, they just only had a couple spots. I hear ya about the fall weather being depressing - hope you're feeling better soon!

  15. I'm sorry you had such a bad week :( I was so shocked that you didn't get the DT position but I really hope it doesn't put you off applying in the future because your cards are some of the most beautiful I've seen and your blog is such an inspiration to me! The gloomy weather doesn't help when you're not feeling too good but this gorgeous card has definitely brought some colour into my day! Perfectly embellished, as always. x
