Happy Tuesday crafters! I'm here to share my latest make with you. I was totally adventurous this weekend and had a go at something I'd never tried before and made a book card. It was actually a lot easier than I'd thought it would be. I think I will make more variations on this in future because it was so much fun, and I may even pop a tutorial on my blog in a few weeks when I have a bit of spare time and that will be another first for me!
Anyway on with the project! I made something that you could give a small gift in and that afterwards could be used for storing small 'treasures' or mementos. As usual there are links to products used at the end of the post.
Aren't these Maja Vintage Autumn Basics papers gorgeous? This project changed as I was working on it. To start with I was going to have a stamped image mounted on the front, but as I made it more and more book like I decided to stick with mostly die cuts. These are all by Spellbinders apart from the bookplate one which is Whimsy to match the stamp.
This is what it looks like when you open it up. There's quite a bit of room inside. I just popped a few small roses in the corner to pretty it up as I wanted to keep the room for putting stuff in.
I used a Spellbinders die for the label on the spine.
The garnet coloured ribbon is recycled from some Christmas crackers! I used some frantage in Aged Rose to give the 'hinges' a corners a metallic feel. The sentiment and spine label are embossed with WoW embossing powder in old gold.
And a view from the 'page' side, with a ribbon fastening to keep it closed.
These would work great for wedding & christening gifts too if themed correctly, and then would be great for keeping memories of the day, don't you think?
Well that's all from me today, I hope you liked it, I really enjoyed trying something different, why don't you have a go at something new too, it's lots of fun! :) xx
I've entered the following challenges:

It's beautiful, but I have no idea how you made it. Were you going to include actual instructions for people who can't just look at something and copy it?
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, this is stunning! Please could you give some instructions how to make it please, as would love to make one myself. Thanks xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful project Linda. I really love the vintage look of laces and distressed edges. What a pretty gift and keepsake for someone.

Thank you :) Yes I plan on making another with a bit of a step by step tutorial in pictures (I'm not quite brave enough for video yet lol). But that won't be until the 2nd week of February when I'm on holiday for a week, as I work full time and so don't have a lot of time for the 'extras' during a normal work week. :) xx
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, would love to see a tutorial, how did you get the edges to look like pages. I love the vintage look and agree Maja papers are simply so apt for this. Well done on trying something new that looks so shunning....x
